It’s no surprise that haunted houses have been really big this year - after all, haunted houses are, in my opinion, just perpetually scary. When it comes to horror, in my opinion, it's hard to beat a great haunted house tale. ![]() Sunblind by Michael McBride -narrated by Scott Thomas. Listen if you liked: The Haunting of Hill House. These are the best horror books that came out in the first half of the year and the best horror to look forward to reading in the second half. Dweller by Jeff Strand -narrated by Scott Thomas. Horror fans, is there anything more terrifying than the relentless passage of time? We’re already approaching the halfway point of 2023, and now seems like a good time to reflect on the best horror books of the year. But, when a very scary Gila monster, el monstruo, arrives, all the other pond animals run away. Kids will adore the surprises in this book about a monster (an axolotl) named Spike who is no bigger than a lily pad. Then, click on Mystery, Thriller, and Suspense. This works without being an Amazon Prime member, FYI (because I’m not). Preferably not written by a cis white male. Requirements: An audio book narrator that is at least tolerable to listen to, but bonus points if they’re a superb reader. Horror is so often a very visual medium that it’s easy to overlook the impact of audio, and audio dramas prove you don’t need visuals to be terrified.
